System of upholstered sofas with covers in Duraform®, in fabric or in leather, available in different colors. Dimensions: cm 203,233,263 x 100 h79
The reason for these monolithic geometries, the backrest designed as a big buttress, the armrest designed as rock blocks, defines a shape with very characterized and recognizable lines, this is the reason also for the name New Castle. The real innovative characteristic of the project is the fresh use, as upholstery, of DURAFORM® an artificial fabric similar to paper, normally used for jeans labels: washable, resistant, transpiring able to confer a strong personality to the most representative version on sofa Newcastle”.
Duraform® is a material deriving from cellulose fiber, generally used for covers, books and in graphic field. Often used for jeans labels. Meritalia uses it in a fresh way in interior design field employing it as upholstery for a new upholstered product.

name: Tombini
designer: Giulio Iacchetti e Matteo Ragni
client: Montini
date: 2012

Giulio Iacchetti and Matteo Ragni have been working with the Montini foundry since 2006. In that time they have designed drains and manhole covers for public as well as private spaces. These products have a market of their own and it is interesting to note that the company has decided to add an element of design to them. This is perhaps the first time that such a thing has happened in this industrial sector. The work of design has focused almost totally on the surface finish of cast-iron manhole covers. The objective, despite the narrowness of the range, was to avoid an operation which involved mere graphic decoration. Every manhole cover tries to tell a story. For example, the one with footprints of birds is for use in public parks and gardens. With others the designers have set out to make the very idea of the material visible: they have used nodular cast iron, a special alloy used by Montini that is made even harder through treatment of the surface. This is the case, for example, with the manhole cover which carries a drawing of a sphere and the one decorated with a photographic enlargement of the physical structure of the material. There are just four motifs, but they are produced in large numbers and once installed no one will wonder about who has designed them. This is a clear demonstration of the power of design. (Abitare n°527)

Internoitaliano is a new system for the production and sale of designer furnishings, created by Giulio Iacchetti, that brings Contemporary Italian Design to the worldwide marketplace via the Internet, providing the quality and technical know-how of traditional Italian craftsmanship to products sold exclusively online.

At the heart of Internoitaliano is a production system constituted by a network of workshops and manufacturing companies that embody the excellence in the Italian ability to create top-quality products paired with a real-time global system of circulation, the Internet. Internoitaliano, therefore, is truly a “fabbrica diffusa”, a factory network.
Internoitaliano objects enjoy a special status: they are happy objects, fruit of a 50/50 joint effort between the designer who designed them and the craftsman who lovingly made them. They are free from economic constraints that might otherwise impose high profit margins and can therefore be brought to market at a fair price, with respect for the intrinsic value of each partie’s contribution and the high quality of the materials.
