Two vases made by 3D printing using PLA filament – polylactic acid, a thermoplastic material derived from biodegradable sources such as corn starch – combined with waste from centuries-old Apulian olive trees or grape seeds ground into powder. The material is an absolute first, applied to a design project for the very first time. Resting on three protrusions, the vases offer a reinterpretation of the archetypal vase form, highlighting the potential of 3D printing to produce complex objects that cannot be made with traditional techniques. The Tripot vases are a bridge between past and future, a kind of tangible expression of “near archaeology”: an object deliberately out of time.
The project was created for the exhibition RESIDUI, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (curated by Valentina Croci and HoperAperta – Patrizia Catalano and Martina Barberis Casagrande; exhibition design by Studio GISTO and Nolostand SpA).
