Santacqua is a series of three holy water stoups in red porphyry, realised for The Italian Stone Theatre during the fair in Verona: water means bodily as well as spiritual well-being. In churches, stoups – traditionally made of marble – offer water to the faithful to mark their foreheads. In this project, the basins remain suspended on their support, a minor miracle: a large monolith is poised on a small column, with a sense of precariousness that enhances the stone while making it unexpectedly lightweight and ethereal, and inspiring values that transcend the physical nature of the object to moving into inner territories linked with spirituality and well-being.
