DEA FERTILIA is the name of a ceramic jug designed by Giulio Iacchetti and Genesio Pistidda, produced in Sardinia at Salvatore Lovicu’s “Terra e Luna” workshop in Nuoro. The DEA FERTILIA jug aims to become a souvenir of Fertilia, the village on the outskirts of Alghero, which was built at the behest of the regime following the reclamation of the Nurra.

“We thought of a new symbol (for a fundamentally new town) that could best represent the village. So we came up with the idea of a jug with human features, a sort of goddess (the DEA FERTILIA), mistress of life, who carries and dispenses water. We thought of a sort of invented mythology, a benign goddess who evokes the graphic and architectural symbols of Fertilia (the cloak that wraps her has a pleated base that recalls the regular rhythm of the porticos of Via Pola, Fertilia’s main street); the facial features are a reference and a tribute to the style of Eugenio Tavolara, the artist who contributed to giving a contemporary form to classic Sardinian craftsmanship. The lettering on the base of the jug uses a graphic font derived from the lettering on the primary schools in Fertilia: an extraordinarily contemporary font”.
