The summer of 2023 will also be remembered for the points promotion at Conad supermarkets mainly based on the set of pots and pans I designed for Alessi. Solid, concrete pans, characterised by soft, material colours… I called them TAMA, a name derived from the place name of a Japanese locality. The official thesis in support of the name was that the ‘simple’ design of the cookware set was inspired by the formal clarity that informs Japanese products; in reality, the name TAMA derives from the brand name of the drum set always favoured by Stewart Copeland, the legendary drummer of the Police!
