Giulio Iacchetti begins his collaboration as design curator for MV Line by creating an outdoor umbrella. Like butterfly wings, two fabric panels unfold into space—thanks to an automatic, remote-controlled mechanism—to provide shade and protection.

Papillon is an umbrella that challenges conventional opening mechanisms by freeing up the space beneath it through an off-center support structure instead of a central one. When closed, the fabric gathers neatly under the supporting frame, keeping it protected when not in use. The design is completed by a flooring element, perfectly aligned with the open canopy’s footprint, made from Abet HPL Externa laminate—creating a spacious surface for relaxation or dining.

During Milan Design Week, for the launch of Papillon, Giulio Iacchetti collaborated with illustrator Antonio Colomboni, who created a striking, colorful illustration for the umbrella’s large canopy. Within the grand hall of Palazzo Litta, its opening and closing became a captivating and memorable scenographic display.
