An exhibition for Poste Italiane on the theme of saving.
At the heart of the project is an object that, thanks to its simplicity and familiarity, has become the very symbol of saving in the collective imagination: the piggy bank.
Yet it is about more than saving. The piggy bank is also a container, both physical and metaphorical, for coins and for dreams: from early childhood it nurtures our wishes and projects children (and not only children) towards the future. Around these themes, the exhibition develops a reflection that goes beyond theory and focuses first and foremost on the design of the objects themselves.
At the centre of the exhibition space are 23 piggy banks, selected for their clever formal details, their use of new or innovative materials, and their historical significance.
The historical pieces evoke a shared memory and enter into dialogue with the present through contemporary reinterpretations by 8 emerging designers. All around, a series of panels dedicated to postage stamps tells the story of postal savings and their role in Italy’s development, while also tracing the evolution of the visual and graphic language of philately.
